Premium burs cost more than standard ones, but they last three to five times longer, so the cost per preparation ends up lower. That is exactly what the Premium designation stands for, and what justifies the difference in price.

Model R 001 is a diamond ball with a two-tier diamond coating. Where ordinary burs lose their edge quickly on hard enamel, the RETARD Premium keeps cutting, so a single instrument covers a whole treatment session rather than a single cavity.

• Caries excavation: precise, selective removal of carious tissue with minimal damage to sound dentine.
• Initial cavity access: penetrating enamel and opening access for further preparation.

The burs work on the shark-tooth principle: as the upper layer of diamond grains wears away, fresh grains from the layers beneath are automatically exposed. Cutting efficiency therefore stays constant instead of declining over the life of the instrument.
